Part of the mission at Malayaka House is to grow and raise as much as we are able in a sustainable way. We employ methods from permaculture which allow us to balance the needs of the environment with the needs of Malayaka house and our community.
Not only are we able to grow and raise our own food, we are also able to teach the children at Malayaka House about gardening and husbandry, all skills which will be valuable as they make their way forward in the world beyond the walls of the house. Plus, it’s always fun to get your hands dirty in the garden!
Malayaka House takes this training program out into the community as well, working with our neighbours to plant community gardens and with other children’s homes, programs and schools in our local community. Gardens, farms and water systems work with nature in an effort to make the communities more self sufficient. It’s a win-win all around!
